In this episode of Divine Intervention, we are joined by missionaries Mark and Ann Excel.
Mark Exel was born on September 29th, 1956 in Nigeria to Pastor Ruben and Deaconess Mary Essian at Qau Aibo Church. At the age of 11, Mark and his family were torn apart by the Nigerian Civil War. Mark and his mother were separated from his father and had to walk miles and miles every day to escape the ever-advancing front lines of warfare. Mark and his mother finally settled in a town called Calabar. Mark eventually reunited with his father, albeit for a short time as his father passed shortly thereafter in 1973. Mark worked tirelessly to support himself through school, and he eventually moved to the city in order to attend university. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Ann, whom he married in 1986. Not long after they were married, Mark felt a calling from the Lord to leave his small accounting job and pursue a full time ministry as a missionary to Togo. But like Jonah, Mark was reluctant to go. That is, until a dramatic divine intervention changed his heart. Mark died and was taken by Jesus on a tour of hell and heaven, all the while people prayed over his dead body in his home. After being dead for approximately six hours, he was sent back to earth and told to proclaim the Gospel. He came back to life, and today is a missionary and minister and shares his testimony and the good news of Jesus Christ with whoever will listen.
