On this episode of Divine Intervention, we are joined by the two lead cast members (Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea) and the executive producer (Jim McBride) of "Fireproof," the #1 independent movie of 2008, produced by Sherwood Pictures. In celebrating the January 27th DVD release of this powerful film, we dedicate this episode to talking about the many divine interventions that occurred in the production of this film. Our guests share divine intervention stories of things like how the director received the idea for the story after a long season of prayer, to God supplying a professional volunteer cast and crew, to many examples of answered prayer in supplying their every need while on the set. They share how many people's lives and marriages were turned around after seeing this movie, and how a film that cost only $500,000 to make, made multiple millions at the box office. After listening to this show, it will become evident that God's hand was all over the production of this film.
Kirk Cameron was born in 1970 in Panorama City, California, and is the brother of "Full House" actress Candace Cameron. Kirk is perhaps best known for his acting role of the loveable Mikey Seaver in the 1980s hit TV series "Growing Pains." Kirk became a teen idol around 1987, when he shared the cover of such magazines as Tiger Beat and Teen Beat with such other famous teenagers as Cory Feldman and Cory Haim. Kirk went on to make a number of films, including 1988's Like Father, Like Son, with Dudley Moore. He has also starred in the popular Christian end-times movies the "Left Behind" series, as well as a few other Christian themed movies. Kirk met his wife, actress Chelsea Noble on the set of "Growing Pains", where she played his girlfriend. They married in 1991 and have a family of six children (three daughters and three sons), four of which are adopted. Currently, he partners with evangelist Ray Comfort in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They have a ministry together called "The Way of the Master;" a video series where they walk the street sharing the Gospel of Christ with people they meet. They do this as an instructional tape to show Christians how to effectively share their faith, "The way Jesus did." Hence the title of their program, "The Way of the Master." And of course, in Kirks’ latest acting role, he plays firefighter Caleb Holt in "Fireproof," the # 1 independent film of 2008 from Sherwood Pictures.
Erin Bethea is a professional actress currently based in Orlando, FL. She received her BA in Theatre from the University of Mobile where she was able to put her love of live theatrical performance to use in over a dozen shows including Annie Get Your Gun (Dolly Tate), Nuncrackers (Sister Robert Anne), The Pajama Game (Babe Williams), and more. After college, Erin was given the opportunity to shoot a small role in Facing the Giants, the second film produced by Sherwood Pictures in her hometown of Albany, GA. Erin made a brief appearance in that film as sports caster Alicia Houston. Soon afterward, Erin began working as an entertainer at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. She was able to perform in various parades and shows across Disney property and is currently a contracted actress at the Magic Kingdom. Erin also played the lead role of Catherine Holt in Sherwood Pictures' third film, "Fireproof" opposite veteran actor Kirk Cameron. Fireproof was recently released on DVD and is being distributed by Provident Films, a division of Sony.
Jim McBride joined Sherwood Baptist Church in 2003 as executive pastor, overseeing operations, church staff, and finances for the church and for Sherwood Pictures. Jim also managed the $4.6 million Generations Campaign that closed debt and initiated a sports and recreation complex. Before serving as executive pastor at Sherwood, for three years Jim was school pastor for Sherwood Christian Academy—and he continues to serve on the board for the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools.
A leader in the Albany, Georgia, community, Jim was general manager for Coca-Cola, overseeing a $25 million operating budget. The CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Consolidated publicly recognized Jim for his Christian leadership. As part of the Albany Olympic Committee, Jim addressed a crowd of 10,000 during the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay. For two years, he chaired the Leadership Albany board and continues to help develop leaders in Albany’s business community. From 1979-1985, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
